Introduction
RWA.xyz currently reports two very different totals for tokenized private credit: roughly $36.78B of “represented” value and $7.28B of “distributed” value. A single asset, Figure’s HELOC token, classified as represented, accounts for about $21.08B of the higher number. A second asset, the DOM X Arizona Copper-Gold Project at $11.06B represented, is unexplained in the public data and probably distorts any headline read even further. Strip out those two entries and the represented figure collapses toward the distributed figure.
That collapse is the whole story. Private credit has genuinely overtaken tokenized Treasuries as the largest real-world-asset category, but the composition of the category is not uniform. The dominant platforms, Figure, Maple, Tradable, represent three structurally different answers to what it means to put credit onchain. One originates loans and uses a blockchain as a settlement and marketplace layer. One issues a fully collateralized yield-bearing token that circulates across DeFi. One tokenizes institutional positions that are legally restricted from moving at all.
Each model concentrates default and recovery risk in a different place, and each depends on a different piece of infrastructure remaining sound. The interesting comparative work is not summing them into a single AUM figure. It is locating where the credit risk actually sits, which layer of the stack has to hold, and what the sector’s post-2022 shape says about the original thesis that blockchains could underwrite credit differently than banks.
The distributed-versus-represented gap

RWA.xyz distinguishes between two states a tokenized credit asset can occupy. Distributed value refers to tokens that actively circulate, that settle onchain, transfer between wallets, appear in DeFi transactions, and behave like an asset with liquidity. Represented value refers to tokens that exist as a pointer to an offchain asset, but whose economic activity, origination, servicing, payment, recovery, happens largely elsewhere. A represented token can be entirely valid and legally enforceable without ever transferring after mint.
The methodology matters because the two totals are not additive and are not substitutes. As of the most recent RWA.xyz snapshot, tokenized credit shows $36.78B represented (up roughly 4% over 30 days) against $7.28B distributed (up roughly 1%). The gap is not noise. It is the shape of the sector: most of the headline value is bookkeeping tokens, not tokens that circulate.
Figure’s HELOC token is the extreme case. At $21.08B represented, it is the single largest tokenized credit asset on the platform and is classified as represented. The DOM X Arizona Copper-Gold Project at $11.06B is a separate anomaly, the public excerpt gives no explanation, and any analyst using the aggregate figure needs to note that removing these two entries brings the represented total down to roughly $4.6B, a figure that sits below the distributed total. That inversion is a useful discipline. It says that outside two very large represented positions, the sector’s onchain-circulating credit is smaller than its onchain-referenced credit.
None of this is a criticism of the represented category. A HELOC settling on Provenance is doing real work, compressing funding cycles, reducing warehouse-lender fees, giving investors a cleaner record than a shared spreadsheet. But describing that as “onchain credit” in the same breath as a token that a Pendle vault can hold and margin against is a category error. The rest of this analysis treats the three dominant platforms as three separate products.
Figure: origination and the Dutch auction warehouse

Figure is a non-bank HELOC lender that launched in 2018 and began settling loans on Provenance Blockchain, a Cosmos-based chain purpose-built for its use case, in 2021. According to a September 2025 sponsored piece in This Week in Fintech, sponsored by Figure, and treated here as a marketing document rather than an independent report, the platform had tokenized $15.3B in assets and was settling more than $600M per month on Provenance. RWA.xyz now shows $21.08B in represented value for the HELOC token, consistent with continued growth since that publication.
The mechanism worth explaining is Democratized Prime, Figure’s borrow/lend marketplace. Traditional HELOC funding runs through warehouse lines and forward-flow agreements, bilateral arrangements with banks and asset managers that involve multi-step fees and funding cycles measured in months. Democratized Prime replaces the warehouse line with an hourly Dutch auction. Investors bid a rate and a quantity in YLDS, an SEC-registered yield-bearing stablecoin. Bids clear at the highest accepted rate, and all filled bidders receive that rate. Idle YLDS earns a passive yield (reported at 3.84% APY at the time of the sponsored article, indexed roughly to SOFR minus 50bps) while waiting to be deployed. If no resting bids exist, the mechanism spikes the rate to 30% to draw capital in.
This is a genuinely interesting design. It replaces a negotiated bilateral warehouse arrangement with a continuous auction, and it collapses the funding cycle from months to something closer to days. Figure claims roughly 125bps in cost savings per loan versus traditional structures, a marketing claim that should not be taken at face value, but that points at where the efficiency, if real, would come from.
Where the credit risk actually sits
The Provenance settlement layer is not itself absorbing HELOC credit risk. It is a fast, auditable pipe. The credit risk sits with the investors who fund the pool through Democratized Prime, and behind them with the HELOC borrowers whose homes serve as collateral. If borrowers default at above-modeled rates, first loss falls on pool investors in whatever tranche structure Figure has established. The sponsored source does not describe recovery mechanics, what happens to a tokenized HELOC when the underlying borrower stops paying, who forecloses, how proceeds are distributed. Those steps are, as best we can tell from public material, conventional offchain processes. The blockchain speeds up the funding side; it does not change the collateral side.
That is the honest way to read Figure’s $21B: a fast, cheap settlement rail for HELOC origination and a novel warehouse-pricing mechanism sitting on top of it. It is not a new form of credit. It is a better plumbing layer for an existing form. Whether the Nasdaq IPO the topic references has occurred or remains pending is not addressed in the source material and we do not speculate on timing.
Maple: from delegate underwriting to overcollateralized composability

Maple’s history is the sector’s most-cited case study because the protocol lived through a full cycle. In its original form, Maple ran pools underwritten by delegates, professional credit managers who assessed borrower quality and set terms for undercollateralized loans to trading firms and market makers. The thesis was that onchain infrastructure combined with human underwriting could democratize access to institutional credit that had previously been bilateral and opaque.
The 2022 default of Orthogonal Trading, a market-maker borrower with exposure that became apparent only after FTX collapsed, was the stress test that ended that phase. The precise loss quantum and recovery details are not in the source material for this article, and we do not manufacture them. What is well established is the direction Maple moved afterward: away from delegate-underwritten undercollateralized loans and toward overcollateralized structures marketed as syrupUSDC and syrupUSDT. RWA.xyz shows $1.07B of syrupUSDC and $299.5M of syrupUSDT classified as distributed, with Maple ranking second by total platform value at $970.7M. Both syrup tokens circulate, they show up in transactions and in DeFi integrations.
The topic angle cites a collateral ratio above 150%. Maple’s protocol documentation should be checked directly for current, pool-specific figures; we treat the >150% number as approximate and directional rather than exact.
The composability stack and its risk layers
syrupUSDC is not just a claim on a loan pool. It is a composable token that has been integrated into Pendle (which splits it into principal and yield tokens), Morpho (where it is used as collateral to borrow other assets), and Ether.fi (which layers restaking yield on top). Each integration extends the utility of the token and each integration adds a distinct risk vector.
- Pendle introduces yield-token pricing risk. A drawdown in the underlying pool re-prices the yield token nonlinearly.
- Morpho introduces liquidation risk. If syrupUSDC’s redemption value drifts from its assumed peg or if Morpho’s oracle stales, positions collateralized by syrupUSDC could be liquidated, and forced selling could accelerate any dislocation.
- Ether.fi introduces cross-protocol dependency. A restaking position wrapping syrupUSDC-derived yield inherits both credit risk from Maple’s pool and slashing or smart-contract risk from the restaking layer.
In a normal environment these layers add yield without visible cost. In a stress scenario, say, a large borrower missing a payment and syrupUSDC redemptions queueing, the composed positions can amplify. A holder of a Pendle YT wrapped through a Morpho position wrapped through Ether.fi does not have a straightforward exit; each unwrap depends on the layer above functioning normally. This is the classic tradeoff of DeFi composability applied to a credit token, and it is worth distinguishing from the risk of holding syrupUSDC directly.
Was 2022 a phase or a permanent retreat?
The interesting question is whether overcollateralization is a temporary posture, one Maple maintains while the sector rebuilds trust and will relax as underwriting matures, or the actual equilibrium for onchain credit. If it is the equilibrium, the original Maple thesis has effectively been reversed. Overcollateralized lending against liquid crypto assets does not democratize credit; it serves borrowers who already hold collateral. That is a real market, but it is not the market the 2020-vintage delegate model was trying to build.
Maple has not, in our sourcing, made a public commitment either way, and the composability of syrupUSDC suggests the protocol is comfortable being an institutional-grade yield token rather than a channel for unsecured credit. If that reading is right, the sector’s answer to 2022 was structural, not cyclical. Undercollateralized onchain credit at scale would require enforcement mechanisms, reputation, legal recourse, or programmable claims on offchain assets, that the current stack does not yet provide.
Tradable: tokenization as compliance layer

Tradable is the model that most challenges the framing of “tokenized credit” as a single category. On RWA.xyz, it reports $2.19B in represented asset value across 48 private-credit positions on ZKsync Era, held by 59 addresses, with $0 in monthly transfer volume and zero monthly active addresses. The named positions include senior secured term notes for a “North America Rent Financing Platform” ($202.5M) and a “US Buy Now, Pay Later Finance Provider”, the shape of institutional private-credit ABS.
The $0 transfer figure is not a bug. Tradable’s platform description explicitly includes transfer restrictions, investor eligibility checks, and programmatic compliance as features. The tokens are designed not to circulate. What the blockchain provides is a registry, a compliance rail, and a reporting layer for capital calls and distributions. The platform is still marked beta.
This is a legitimate use of tokenization infrastructure. Institutional private credit is a business of illiquid, restricted positions held by a small number of qualified investors. Putting those positions on a chain with programmable transfer restrictions makes bookkeeping cheaper, audit trails cleaner, and workflow like capital calls automatable. None of that requires the tokens to trade.
It should not, however, be conflated with the liquid onchain credit that syrupUSDC represents, or with the origination-and-settlement flywheel Figure runs on Provenance. When Tradable’s $2.19B is added into the tokenized-credit total, it is adding a compliance-and-registry infrastructure to a category whose headline number is often read as onchain liquidity. The 59-holder count implies highly concentrated positions, likely institutional feeder vehicles rather than a distributed investor base. Legal enforceability of the underlying claims, which jurisdiction, which courts, which trustees, is not visible in the source material and is the actual load-bearing layer for whether these tokens represent recoverable credit at all.
Three models side by side

The three platforms answer different questions with different infrastructure. Reading them as points on a single spectrum is misleading; they are closer to three product categories that share only a tokenization step.
| Figure | Maple (syrup) | Tradable | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary function | HELOC origination + settlement | Overcollateralized yield token | Institutional position registry |
| Chain | Provenance | Ethereum, Solana | ZKsync Era |
| RWA.xyz classification | Represented | Distributed | Represented |
| Headline value | ~$21.08B represented | ~$1.37B distributed (syrupUSDC + syrupUSDT) | ~$2.19B represented |
| Holder base | Democratized Prime participants + institutional | DeFi users, composed protocols | 59 holders |
| Monthly transfer activity | High (settlement + auction) | High (DeFi integrations) | ~$0 |
| Collateralization posture | HELOC lien on home | Overcollateralized (>150% cited, verify) | Senior secured notes, structure varies |
| First-loss location | Democratized Prime pool investors | syrupUSDC holders (buffered by overcollateral) | Junior tranches / equity holders |
| Recovery mechanism | Conventional foreclosure, offchain | Onchain liquidation of collateral | Offchain workout, trustee-driven |
| Composability | Limited (Provenance-native) | Deep (Pendle, Morpho, Ether.fi) | None by design |
| Main dependency | Origination volume + auction liquidity | Collateral integrity + composability partners | Legal enforceability of offchain claims |
The comparison clarifies why the aggregate number is a poor summary statistic. Figure’s model depends on continued HELOC origination and auction participation; a slowdown compresses volume but does not directly threaten investor recovery. Maple’s model depends on the integrity of the collateral backing syrup pools and on the smart-contract stack of the protocols composing it; a dislocation there can cascade quickly. Tradable’s model depends on legal infrastructure entirely offchain; the blockchain layer is not where recovery happens or fails.
What 2022 taught, and what the current shape implies
The 2022 undercollateralized-lending failures, Orthogonal on Maple and comparable episodes at peers, did more than blow out specific pools. They redefined what onchain credit was allowed to mean. The sector’s response, three years on, has been to route around the problem rather than solve it. Overcollateralization on Maple removes the underwriting problem by removing the underwriting. Figure’s approach avoids it entirely by using the blockchain for settlement rather than credit selection. Tradable moves the underwriting fully offchain and uses the token layer only for compliance.
Each of these is defensible in isolation. Together they suggest the sector has quietly conceded that current onchain infrastructure cannot yet enforce claims against borrowers who lack posted collateral. Reputation systems are thin. Legal recourse against offshore trading firms is expensive and slow. Programmable claims on future revenue exist but have not been tested at scale. Until one of those problems has a real solution, “onchain credit” at the aggregate level will continue to mean three quite different things depending on the platform.
For an analyst tracking the category, the useful posture is to disaggregate. Distributed value is the number to watch for whether tokens are behaving as credit assets in a DeFi sense, being priced, borrowed against, composed. Represented value is the number to watch for how much traditional credit is using tokenization as a settlement or compliance layer, and it should be read with the largest few positions itemized rather than summed. Growth in one is not growth in the other.
Several questions remain unresolved from the sources available. The DOM X Arizona Copper-Gold Project’s $11.06B representation on RWA.xyz has no visible explanation in the public data and materially affects any headline read of the category; it is worth watching whether it persists or is reclassified. Figure’s IPO status is referenced in the article’s brief but absent from the sourced material, and the mechanics of default recovery in Democratized Prime pools are not disclosed in the sponsored source available to us. Maple’s protocol documentation should be consulted directly for current collateral ratios and any signals about future undercollateralized products. And Tradable’s legal architecture, jurisdiction, trustee, enforcement path, is the question that determines whether its $2.19B represents real credit or well-formatted metadata.
The category has outgrown Treasuries. What remains is the harder question of what it has outgrown into.

가장 최근 RWA.xyz 스냅샷 기준으로 토큰화 크레딧의 표시 가치는 $36.78B(30일간 약 4% 증가), 유통 가치는 $7.28B(약 1% 증가)다.
Figure:

Maple:

Pendle(원금과 수익 토큰으로 분리), Morpho(다른 자산을 차입하는 담보로 활용), Ether.fi(리스테이킹 수익률을 추가로 레이어링)에 통합된 컴포저블 토큰이다.
Tradable:

| Figure | Maple (syrup) | Tradable | |

「represented(表象)」ベースでおよそ$36.78B、「distributed(流通)」ベースで$7.28Bだ。

Figure:

Maple:

Pendle(元本トークンと利回りトークンに分割)、Morpho(他の資産を借りるための担保として使用)、Ether.fi(リステーキング利回りを重ねる)に統合されたコンポーザブルなトークンだ。
Tradable:

| Figure | Maple(syrup) | Tradable | |
|---|---|---|---|
21.08B represented | ~$1.37B distributed(syrupUSDC+syrupUSDT) | ~$2.19B represented |

Figure:

投资者以 YLDS(一种经 SEC 注册的生息稳定币)出价,报出利率与数量。
Maple:

syrupUSDC 不只是对贷款池的索取权,它是一个已被集成进多个协议的可组合代币:Pendle(将其拆分为本金代币和收益代币)、Morpho(作为抵押品借入其他资产)以及 Ether.fi(在其上叠加再质押收益)。
- Ether.fi 引入了跨协议依赖。
Tradable:

| Figure | Maple(syrup) | Tradable | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 链 | Provenance | Ethereum、Solana | ZKsync Era |
| RWA.xyz

| Figure | Maple (syrup) | Tradable | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cadena | Provenance | Ethereum, Solana | ZKsync Era |
| Clasificación RWA.xyz | Representado | Distribuido | Representado |
| Valor titular | ~$21.08B representados | ~$1.37B distribuidos (syrupUSDC + syrupUSDT) | ~$2.19B representados |
